AMA's Pushed New Era of Fashion

From the first step onto the red carpet until the final step away from the show, star-studded "fashionistonists" turned heads from every angle at the 2009 American Music Awards. But let's focus on the red carpet. Rihanna rocked an edgey black and white dressed accented with cut-out floral prints; she completed this with some white mary jane heels. In another eye-turning dress, Alicia Keys stunned the cameras with a beautiful blue-purplelish strapless mini-dress covered in crystal-like material. She topped this off with matching blue open-toed heels. Leona Lewis blew the red carpet away with a pointy bustier mini black dress that created a bubble at the bottom part. She matched the dress with cute black booties. Mary J. Blidge graced the carpet in a long black dress that gathered on certain parts in designed knots.

For males, Neyo ripped the runway with a black outfit topped off with a gray blazer. And for another fresh look, the infamous Day 26 coordinated a black and white theme, with sleek and sophisticated taylored suites of different designs, fitting each of them to a T.

Black Eye Peas even showed off a futuristic look on the rep carpet with black trenches, zipper blazers, shiny studds, and black boots. Fergie stood out with a shimmering gray dress with a daring thigh-high split.

Artists are not only bringing talent on stage at award shows, but they are putting forth their best appearance on the red carpet.

"The Princess and the Frog" Fans-- Get Your Daughter! Carol's Daughter, That Is

The moment is finally drawing nearer to the release date of Disney's anticipated movie, "The Princess and the Frog." The musical-based story is a bout a jazzy Prince who comes to town, makes a bad deal with a voo-doo doctor, and turns into a frog. The frog then meets a beautiful girl named Tiana, kisses her, and the two along with friends travel on a fun filled journey to discovery. The movie will make history as being the first cartoon to feature an African American princess; to celebrate, Carol's Daughter hair care has created a special edition of hair care and body products based on the movie.

According to drjays.com, the products will consist of natural ingredients the brand is recognized for, such as sunflower seed oil, aloe leaf juice, and cranberry extract. The collection was launced last month, and compared to normal prices, Carrol's Daughters have presented quality hair care products selling at $10 each (www.drjays.com).

"The Princess and the Frog" is set to be released on November 25th in some areas and December 11th everywhere. You can also check out the Carol's Daughter products and locations near you at Carolsdaughter.com.

"Precious" Breaks Box Offices.... But is it Oscar Material?

While visiting New York last week, my cousin and I had planned to go and see the hyped-up movie "Precious." However, we were turned away at the door because the movie had been sold out for the rest of the day, including the 12:35 midnight showing of it.

It's obvious that the movie reached selling goals in theaters this past weekend (according to Essence.com, it brought in $104,000.00 per screen); but has the quality of the movie reached Oscar level material? Apparently, not. According to the LA Times some Oscar voters are not too thrilled about the movie. Emotions were quite clear at the premier screening at the Samuel Goldwyn Theater (official academy screening) where guests were between at most 500 in a room that seats 1,000, writer Tom O'neil wrote.

As Essence Write Demetria Lucas puts it, "Is it possible the academy doesn't find anything precious about "Precious"?

When Oscar voters critique movies and decide whether it's Oscar worthy material, what all do they look for? What are the criterias? And whatever they are, did they actually even give the movie a chance?

Hopefully Oprah Winfrey and Tyler Perry, along with the director, can explain the idea that is understandable and can hopefully win them an Oscar!

Soulja Boy Becoming a Hip Hop Mogul?

So... is the new generation rap artist Soulja Boy Tell 'Em on the verge of becoming a Hip Hop mongul? Well, not exactly. Although the young star is merely a "yellow brick road" away from this (he's made collabos with arists such as Trey Songz and Sammie; won Kids' Choice Awards and Grammy's; and his songs have been number one Billboard Hot 100, just to name a few), Soulja Boy has created a name for himself in the industry, a name big enough to gain the attention of some of the most popular artists in the business.

As a matter of fact, BET.com tells us during an interview with XXLMag.com that Soulja Boy is expected to work with Kanye West and is also writing songs for Rihanna's next album which is expected to drop November of this year.

And while working on hits for fellow entertainers, Soulja boy was expected to release three mix tapes for Halloween, entitled Cortez, DatPiff, and Paranormal Activity (http://www.bet.com/Music/news/Souljaboywritesforrihanna_musicnews_10.30.09.htm).

Soulja Boy also told XXL that "This is what I do... I make music. I make money. I travel the world. I make business decisions and take things to the next level." So for a 19-year-old, the kid has definitely made a good name for himself.
